A Lightning deposit should take seconds. The cashier shows a QR code, your wallet scans it, the balance appears. When it goes wrong, though, you are left staring at a string of several hundred random-looking characters that starts with lnbc. The cashier does not explain what is inside it, and your wallet often shows nothing more than an error.
That string is the invoice, and it is not random at all. It spells out the amount, the moment it stops being payable, a short description, the node that will receive the money and a unique payment code. We built a free decoder that reads all of it in your browser, so you can check a casino deposit invoice before you pay it, and keep the details you need to prove the payment if the balance does not move. For on-chain deposits and withdrawals, our crypto transaction checker does the same job.
Lightning Invoice Decoder
Paste the invoice from the cashier, or a lightning: link. Amount, expiry countdown, description, receiving node and payment hash appear instantly.
Open the decoder in a full page
Runs entirely in your browser. The invoice is decoded and its signature verified on your device, and nothing you paste is sent anywhere.
What a Lightning invoice tells you
Every classic Lightning invoice follows the same public standard, BOLT 11, so every wallet and casino cashier encodes its fields the same way, even if not every invoice uses every field. The decoder shows the ones that matter for a deposit first and keeps the rest under “Technical details”.
| Field | What it means for your deposit |
|---|---|
| Amount | How many sats the invoice asks for. The number is written inside the invoice itself (lnbc25u means 25 micro-bitcoin, which is 2,500 sats). Some invoices carry no amount at all, and then your wallet asks you to type it. |
| Expires | The invoice stores the second it was created and how long it stays valid. When no validity is set, the standard default is one hour. After that, most wallets refuse to pay it. |
| Description | Free text chosen by whoever created the invoice, such as a name or a deposit reference. It can also be empty, or replaced by a hash of a longer text. |
| Receiving node | The Lightning node that gets paid. It is not written in plain text in most invoices: the decoder recovers it from the invoice signature, the same way your wallet does, and links it to public node explorers. |
| Payment hash | A unique code for this one payment. When you pay, your wallet receives the matching “preimage”, which only the receiver could have released. With the signed invoice, they prove you paid. |
| Network | Bitcoin mainnet for real money. Invoices starting with lntb, lntbs or lnbcrt are test networks and are worth nothing. |
Why a casino Lightning deposit fails
A Lightning payment is built to complete in full or not at all: it cannot end up half paid, although it can stay pending for a while. That is why most deposit problems happen before the money leaves your wallet. These are the usual causes.
The invoice expired
A cashier can give its invoices a short life, and some cashiers also run their own countdown on screen. If you open the cashier, get distracted and scan the QR code later, your wallet shows an error such as “invoice expired” and nothing is sent. The decoder shows a live countdown, so you know whether you still have time. An expired invoice is not a problem in itself: generate a new one in the cashier and pay that.
No amount in the invoice
An invoice can come without an amount, and then your wallet asks you to fill it in. That is convenient, but a typo becomes a deposit of the wrong size. When the decoder says “Any amount”, type exactly the figure the cashier shows.
The payment fails to route
Lightning payments travel through channels between nodes. If your wallet cannot find a path with enough liquidity, the payment fails and the funds stay in your wallet. Trying again a minute later often works. If it keeps failing, ask the cashier for a new invoice with a smaller amount. If the casino’s own node is short of incoming liquidity, only the casino can fix it. The route hints listed in the technical details help wallets reach a receiving node that sits behind a private channel, which is common and not a warning sign.
Paying from an exchange
Not every exchange can pay a Lightning invoice, and those that can may apply their own minimums and limits. If the exchange rejects the invoice, check why: an exchange can refuse invoices with no amount, below its own minimum, or with route hints (Bustabit notes that some services, like Binance, don’t fully support them). A self-custodial Lightning wallet avoids the exchange’s own limits.
The wrong kind of code
Not everything that looks like Lightning is a classic invoice. A Lightning address (it looks like an email) and an LNURL-pay code (it starts with lnurl1) ask a server for a fresh invoice when you pay, and an LNURL can also be a withdrawal code that sends money to your wallet. A BOLT12 offer starts with lno1, and not every wallet can pay it yet. The decoder recognises all three and tells you which one you pasted.
Paid but not credited: what to send support
Because a Lightning payment is all or nothing, a payment that your wallet shows as complete, with a preimage, really reached the node that issued the invoice. If the casino balance did not move, the hold is on the casino or payment processor side, and you can prove it. Open the payment in your wallet and collect:
- The invoice you paid. It carries the payment hash and the receiving node’s signature, so it ties the payment to that node. The decoder shows the payment hash if support asks for it separately.
- The preimage your wallet shows for that payment. Wallets call it preimage or proof of payment, usually in the payment details.
- The time and amount of the payment, and the username or deposit reference on the casino.
Send those to live chat in one message. The preimage is the key piece: only the receiving node could have released it, so it settles whether the invoice was paid. Support can check it themselves, since the SHA-256 hash of the preimage equals the payment hash in the invoice. Once you have given it, the question is no longer “did you pay” but “why is it not credited”, and that is a casino-side fix.
Processor problems do happen. In November 2024, players on Ignition‘s own forum reported Lightning deposits missing for hours. Forum staff answered that the issue had been escalated to the payment provider and that the method was taken down when it was reported. Once it was resolved, they added that some payments were likely still delayed. That is exactly the situation the payment hash and preimage are for: they show the casino which deposit to look for.
If the payment is still shown as pending in your wallet, do not pay it again, and do not ask for a new invoice and pay that either. A pending Lightning payment either completes or fails and returns the funds on its own. That usually takes minutes, but a stuck payment can stay pending for hours and, in rare cases, days until its time lock runs out.
Casinos we review that take Lightning
These casinos list Bitcoin Lightning on their own sites, in their help, payment or FAQ pages or in an official announcement. The options you see can depend on your country, so check the cashier before you deposit.
| Casino | Lightning deposits | Lightning withdrawals |
|---|---|---|
| Bovada | Yes | Yes |
| Ignition | Yes | Yes |
| Cafe Casino | Yes | Yes |
| Slots.lv | Yes | Yes |
| Joe Fortune | Yes | Yes |
| Bustabit | Yes | Yes |
| DuckDice | Yes | Yes |
| 7Bit Casino | Announced | Announced |
| BitStarz | Yes | Not listed |
A few details from their own pages are worth knowing. Bovada, Ignition, Cafe Casino, Slots.lv and Joe Fortune all list Lightning in their help pages as “Bitcoin Lightning (BCL)”, and Bovada’s help center even names the wallet it prefers: “Strike is best for lightning transactions.” Bustabit runs its own countdown on every deposit invoice, separate from the expiry written inside the invoice, and it lets you create an invoice without route hints because, in its words, some services “like Binance, don’t fully support them”. When the countdown in a cashier and the expiry inside the invoice differ, go by the shorter one.
If your casino is not in the table, look for a Lightning or BCL option in the cashier before assuming it exists. Several big names, including Stake, Cloudbet and Wild.io, do not list Lightning in their help or payment pages.
Lightning or on-chain for casino deposits?
| Lightning | On-chain Bitcoin | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Seconds, once the payment finds a route | Minutes to hours, the casino waits for confirmations |
| Network fee | Usually a small fraction of a percent of the amount | Depends on mempool congestion, and can climb sharply when the network is busy |
| What can go wrong | Expired invoice, no route, wrong amount typed | Low fee stuck in the mempool, wrong address or network |
| Proof of payment | Signed invoice and preimage | Transaction id on the blockchain |
| Check it with | This decoder | Our transaction checker |
Is the decoder safe to use?
Yes. An invoice is a payment request, not a key, and nobody can take money from you with it. The decoder never sends it anywhere either: the whole page, including the signature check, runs inside your browser. The only outside links are to the public node explorers mempool.space and Amboss, and they open only if you click them.

Frequently asked questions
How long is a casino Lightning invoice valid?
Until the expiry written inside it, which the decoder shows as a countdown, or until the cashier’s own countdown ends if that comes first. The standard default is one hour when the invoice does not set its own, and a cashier can choose a shorter window. Once it expires, request a new invoice from the cashier.
My wallet says the payment succeeded but the casino shows nothing. Who is right?
Your wallet, if it shows a preimage for the payment. A completed Lightning payment means the receiving node released the preimage, which it only does when it has the money. Send the payment hash and preimage to casino support and ask them to credit the deposit.
Can I pay an expired invoice?
Normally not. Wallets refuse expired invoices, and the receiving node usually rejects a late payment, so your funds stay with you. Generate a new invoice in the cashier. An expired invoice costs you nothing.
What does “Any amount” mean?
The invoice does not fix the amount, so your wallet will ask you to enter it. Type exactly what the cashier displays, because a typo changes the size of your deposit.
Why is the receiving node not the casino’s name?
A casino can take Lightning payments through a payment processor, so the node that receives the money may belong to the processor. If the node is public, the explorer links show its alias and channels. Aliases are chosen by the node operator and are not verified, and a private node, common when the invoice has route hints, does not appear on explorers at all.
Does the decoder work with BOLT12 offers or Lightning addresses?
It recognises them and tells you what they are, but it decodes classic invoices only (those that start with lnbc, or lntb, lntbs and lnbcrt on test networks). A Lightning address or an LNURL-pay code makes your wallet fetch a fresh classic invoice when you pay.
